Pick one of the Web 2.0 tools below to try during the hands-on section of the workshop. While testing it, think about our"perfect" Web 2.0 tool definition. Determine whether this tool is "perfect" or whether we will need to find some "work-around" methods to make this tool work in your classroom. Once you've had a chance to test it out, return to our Edmodo page and update our Google doc with the pros and cons of the site and how you could use it to meet a curriculum need. Sites marked with an * were covered in the earlier part of the workshop.

Concept Mapping Toolsbubbl.us - Easily create a mind map. You must create an account to save the map.
Creately - Create diagrams of all kinds. Limited free version available. Text2MindMap - Type in an outline and it will be converted to a Mind Map. No registration is required. Click "Save" to get a link to your map. |
Presentation ToolsVoki *- Create a moving avatar that speaks your words. Must have an email address to register. Voki Classroom is available for $29.95 per year.
Glogster * - Createinteractive posters with text, graphics, music, videos, and more. Registration with an email address is needed. (Example) Prezi - Easily create sophisticated presentations. The free account requires and email address to register. Presentations made for free are available to the public. thinglink - Create rich images with music, video, sound, text, and more. Graphing ToolsRich Chart Live - Enter an optional email address to begin. Creates many different types of graphs. Save the graph into PowerPoint or Excel, embed it into a blog, or save as a Flash file and insert it into SMART Notebook.
Online Chart Tools - No registration necessary. Create many types of charts and graphs with lots of saving options. (Example of direct URL link) Google Chart Editor - Start from a example chart, import an existing chart, or begin a new chart. Share by a direct link or by embedding. |
Digital Story TellingStoryBird * - Create digital stories online. Teachers can create a free account and then can create and manage student accounts.
My Story Maker - No registration necessary. Easily create a simple story and get a link to share it. StoryJumper - Use the classroom edition to set up a class and students. Students can then create books to read and share. |
Web Site CreationWeebly for Education * - Easily create a free classroom web site and manage private, student sites. This page is an example of a web site created at Weebly (Quick Weebly tutorial created on Screencast -O-Matic)
Google Sites - Use your Google account to create a web site for your class. Zoho - Another free site that can be used to create a classroom website. Wix - Free with lots of customizable templates. |
CollaborationEdmodo * - Safe, free social networking site for teachers and students. A 'perfect" tool for collaboration and expanding the 4 walls of the classroom. This link will take you to the CR specific log on page.
Schoology - Similar to Edmodo. Free to educators. Google Drive * - Create documents, presentations, speadsheets and more that can be accessed anywhere, anytime. Documents can be shared with a URL. Padlet * - Start with a blank wall and easily add anything you want. Your "wall" can be shared with a URL. (Example) TitanPad - Allows anyone with the link to contribute to a document. FlashcardsQuizlet * - Sign up to create flashcards with multiple ways to study. Students can access teacher-created flashcards with a URL without registering. Audio and graphics can be added.
Brainscape * -Register to begin creating and sharing your flashcards containing graphics and audio. Brainflips - Create and share flashcards online containing text, images, audio and video. Email address needed to register. StudyStack - Make study cards. Students under 12 can sign up without an email. |
Screen CastsScreencast-O-Matic - Browser-based screen capture tool. Use this tool to capture your computer screen movements and audio. This is a great tool for modeling. Your recording is saved "in the cloud" and can be shared with a URL. (Example - Weebly tutorial created on Screencast -O-Matic)
Jing - This screen capture tool requires you to download software to your computer. Videos can be 5 minutes or less. Videos are saved in the cloud and shared with a URL. Educreations - This tool can be used across multiple platforms to create instructional videos using graphics, text, drawings, and audio. Within the district videos can only be created on the iPad app (not a computer). Outside the district, videos can be created on all platforms. Videos can be watched on all platforms in the district. |
Timeline and Map CreatorsTimeToast - Registration with an email is required. Timeline must be public to share the URL. (Example)
